Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha, Nebraska is nestled along the state border with Iowa, placing it very much in the heart of the Midwestern United States. The birthplace of former President Gerald Ford, Malcolm Little (known as Malcolm X), Marlon Brando, and Fred Astaire, Omaha has had many of its citizens play large roles in American life. The College World Series of baseball has also called Omaha home since 1950. For Omaha’s greatest contribution to the American culinary tradition, look no further than the grilled corned beef on rye sandwich known as the Reuben. It is believed that a grocer named Reuben Kulakofsky created the sandwich as part of a regular poker meeting with friends. One of the other players who owned a local hotel put the “Reuben” on his hotel’s menu. Thus, an American favorite was born.

About me:
I grew up in professional kitchens--my parents own a steakhouse. Ironic, then, that I became a vegetarian in 2002! I pride myself, however, in being able to come up with vegetarian dishes that satisfy my non-vegetarian friends and family.

Spicy Tomato Bisque with Grilled Brie Toast

Reviewed on Dec. 2, 2008 by BmbleBeeRoe
I loved this soup! I substituted one can of diced tomatoes and one can of tomato puree to improve the texture. It tasted great. Not at all bland. A little to much spice for me but I have a weak tongue. My husband and father-in-law who like spice really enjoyed it. This recipe will definitely be made often at my house.

SO SO SO good! This is the world's best pasta sauce! It totally tastes like something you would get out at a restaurant & I was surpised that I had made it at home myself!

Chicken and Biscuit Casserole

Reviewed on Dec. 2, 2008 by Recipe Queen
My husband & MIL loved it! I did not care for it but that was b/c I used turkey & have decided I don't think I really like turkey that much anymore...Anyways, they said it was fantastic & I will be making again with chicken. Rather than fresh veggies, I used a bag of frozen veggies that I would have used in a pot pie & forgot the onion.
